The George Slick Fellowship and Grant are two awards created by former superintendent Dr. George Slick. A gifted, dedicated educator and administrator, Dr. Slick helped all to remember that they should always strive to act in the best interests of the districts’ young people. Although Dr. Slick was keenly interested in all aspects of school life, he was always particularly interested in the arts, both visual and performing. This endowment aims to recognize the importance of the art and artists and the integral part they play in the lives of our students.

The George Slick Fellowship

This prestigious fellowship is awarded to a student who demonstrates superior skill in the visual or performing arts, which include music, visual art, theater, dance, photography, and/or music arts. The selected student will work with SHHS faculty support toward mastering their art. The funds are used to help the fellowship recipient demonstrate their skills to the community through a performance or show during their junior year. 

The George Slick Grant

The grant is awarded to a student who shows great potential in the visual or performing arts. The student will receive funds during their sophomore and junior years to help advance their study. 

How to Apply

Strath Haven High School students may apply for the fellowship or grant during their freshman year of high school. SHHS freshmen students may obtain more information and an application by contacting either Ms. Jennifer Rodgers, WSSD Department Chair of Visual Arts, or Mr. Steve Fischer, WSSD Department Chair of Performing Arts.
